As the college football regular season comes to a close, the transfer portal begins to open up more and more. Today, dominoes began to fall as it relates to coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers. Veteran LSU football running back Armoni Goodwin will officially enter the portal ahead of his senior season.

Coming out of high school in the class of 2021, Armoni Goodwin had some high expectations. He was ranked as the No. 80 player nationally and was coming into Baton Rouge as a high four-star.

However, while there were signs of promise, things didn’t work out entirely to the level many had hoped. Over three seasons, the veteran LSU football running back has recorded 61 carries for 332 yards and five touchdowns.

Unfortunately, after going down with a knee injury in 2022, Goodwin did not record a single carry through the 2023 campaign. Instead, several other backs jumped to the front of the depth chart, including transfer addition Logan Diggs and freshman Kaleb Jackson.

Today, the junior running back elected to enter the transfer portal.

Goodwin, a 5-foot-8, 200-pound back out of Birmingham, AL, is an excellent do-it-all runner. He has the leverage to break through weak tackles and displays excellent speed and shiftiness to make defenders miss in the open field.

This is likely the first of several players who may enter the transfer portal this offseason from the LSU football program. However, coach Brian Kelly has expressed plenty of interest in preserving his team and keeping guys in Baton Rouge.

Heading into 2024, the LSU running back room has plenty of depth. Among the group is Logan Diggs, the current starter and several stud underclassmen, such as Kaleb Jackson, Trey Holly and Caden Durham. Regarding the future outlook, the Tigers will be in excellent hands at the position.
