The star power in Baton Rouge is on another level heading into 2023. The 2022 LSU football team already had one of the most exciting offenses in the country, led by quarterback Jayden Daniels. Now, it’s looking like this next season could be even more explosive, as 247 Sports just named them a top-five explosive offense in the SEC.

LSU football offense ranked top five within the SEC in explosiveness

The 2022 LSU football team was electric. They scored 30+ points in 10 of their 14 games, including two 60+ point performances. In addition, they ranked No. 28 in total offense, averaging 453.1 yards per game while scoring 62 offensive touchdowns.

Now, what if I told you the LSU football offense could be even better in 2023?

The Tigers return the vast majority of their offensive starters, including quarterback Jayden Daniels, wide receiver Malik Nabers and running back Josh Williams. Not to mention, their offensive line is essentially unchanged, as they bring back everyone but guard Anthony Bradford.

To make things even scarier, the Tigers brought in several instant-impact players through the transfer portal. The most notable names are running back Logan Diggs from Notre Dame and wide receiver Aaron Anderson from Alabama.

With all that production returning to the LSU football program in 2023, they’ve created a recipe for success. According to 247 Sports, it’s also a recipe for a top-five explosive offense in 2023.

In a recent piece, Brad Crawford of 247 Sports listed the LSU football offense as No. 4 in overall explosiveness in the SEC. If his projection rings true, it would be massive for the Tigers’ chances at a College Football Playoff berth.

Coach Brian Kelly’s squad came inches from a trip to the playoff in 2022, falling short due to a pretty significant loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship game. With an improved offense, their chances of making it happen this year are well within reach.

Some major pieces return for the Tigers in 2023

When projecting the best offenses in college football, returning production is the number one place to look. Luckily for the Tigers, they not only return plenty, but they also gained even more through the transfer portal.

When looking at the offense, they return their No. 1 quarterback, their No. 1 wide receiver, their No. 1 tight end, and their four best running backs.

At the quarterback position, Jayden Daniels is the man once again. In 2022, he was absolutely electric, making play after play en route to an SEC West title. He recorded a total of 3,798 yards and 28 touchdowns for the Tigers.

Then, if we move to the pass catchers, Malik Nabers and Mason Taylor were elite for the Tigers. The pair combined for 110 receptions, 1,431 yards, and six touchdowns.

Finally, it’s hard to know where to start when looking at the running backs. They had four main contributors, each of which brought something unique to the team. Josh Williams, Noah Cain, John Emery Jr and Armoni Goodwin all played significant roles in 2022, combining for 1,583 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground.

No matter who leads the way for the Tigers in 2023, there’s no denying the talent on this roster. They easily have the potential to be one of the best offenses in the country. It’s not a matter of when, it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of who will shine for the purple and gold this coming season.
