The LSU football recruiting class of 2024 has a special bond. It’s clear on social media that they’ve already become incredibly close, and they’ve been discussing some big plans – national championship plans. The class currently ranks No. 10 nationally, according to 247 Sports, but has the potential to grow significantly over the coming months.
The LSU football recruiting class of 2024 has national championship aspirations
In today’s world of NIL and building brands, it’s hard to find young athletes who are still bought into a team goal. More often than not, players will focus more on themselves rather than on what they want to accomplish with their team.
It doesn’t appear that this is an issue for the LSU football program, and based on how their class of 2024 is interacting, it shouldn’t be an issue in the future, either.
Today, a graphic of the current LSU football recruiting class of 2024 has been circling around Twitter. More specifically, it has each commit so far, featuring their names and pictures. For many players, this was an opportunity for a recruiting pitch.
A common theme among the current commits is the “dawg” mentality. That is, they want people willing to put in the work. They want to accomplish something special and understand it takes an entire team effort to make it happen.
QB commit Colin Hurley has a national championship on his mind
When football players commit to play for LSU, there’s a certain standard that has come to be expected. In the history of LSU football, the team has won four national championships and 12 conference championships. The Tigers accomplished both goals in 2019 under coach Ed Orgeron.
Under coach Brian Kelly, the Tiger commits want to return to those winning ways. Class of 2024 quarterback commit Colin Hurley, in particular, has spent ample time talking about how much he wants to win a championship.
In his tweet, not only does he discuss a possible national championship, but he tagged some very specific individuals in it. Since his commitment in November 2022, he’s spent significant time helping to recruit for the class of 2024.
Unsurprisingly, he hasn’t slowed down, constantly reaching out to some of the best recruits in the country.
In his national championship Twitter post, he tagged top uncommitted recruits cornerback Cai Bates, running back Caden Durham, edge rusher Colin Simmons and wide receiver Jelani Watkins.
Who’s next for this recruiting class?
The Tigers currently sit at 18 commitments for their class of 2024 and still have plenty of room for more. That brings in the question, who’s next?
Of the four players quarterback Colin Hurley tagged in his Twitter post, Watkins and Bates appear to be the most likely commits. Both players have consistently been trending to Baton Rouge and could commit sooner rather than later.
Simmons and Durham have slightly larger question marks surrounding them. Durham appears to be an Oklahoma lean, while Simmons leans more toward Texas. Still, the two star players attend the same high school and could become a dynamic duo for years if the pair selects LSU.
Aside from those four, there are several Louisiana-based prospects who are top targets for coach Kelly. Among them are defensive lineman Dominick McKinley, cornerback Wardell Mack, and linebacker Tylen Singleton.
Plenty of top-tier talent remains uncommitted for the class of 2024. Luckily for Tiger fans, LSU football is in the running for a good chunk of them. This class could be special and will play a significant role in Kelly’s teams well into the near future.
