When LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond was first brought on, Tiger faithful were pretty confident he’d be able to work some magic on the recruiting trail. As it turns out, that confidence was warranted, as he’s already made an early impression on some of the best recruits in the country, including four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers.
LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond making an early impression on class of 2025 four-star cornerback
Corey Raymond was officially brought on as the new LSU secondary coach on January 18, 2024. It hasn’t even been a full month, and the veteran assistant already has the Tigers in the running for some of the best defensive back recruits in the country.
While he was unsuccessful in flipping five-star athlete Terry Bussey over from Texas A&M, there’s some major momentum in the class of 2025 thus far. One of the biggest names of note is five-star safety DJ Pickett, but there are several other recruitments to keep an eye on, including four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers.
Sellers initially received an offer from the purple and gold in June of 2023, but it appears that his draw to LSU has only increased since the hiring of coach Raymond.
Sellers, a product out of Pearland, TX, recently spoke to Sam Spiegelman of On3 about his relationship with the program, and the four-star cornerback had some very encouraging things to say.
There’s still around a year until the talented defensive back needs to sign with a program, but building relationships is one of the best things a program can do when looking to bring in the best of the best. With Corey Raymond at the helm of the secondary, it doesn’t look like this will be a concern for as long as he’s around.
Cobey Sellers as a recruiting target
Even despite being from the juggernaut that is Texas high school football, Cobey Sellers ranks among the very best in the entire state. According to 247Sports, he currently rates as a four-star cornerback and the No. 124 player nationally.
Furthermore, ranking as the No. 18 player in-state, he makes an impact in all phases of the game, having seen snaps on offense, defense and special teams in his time with Shadow Creek High School.
Standing at 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, Sellers already has three years of varsity ball under his belt, and figures to continue impressing as we head into his senior season.
Among the top schools recruiting him are Baylor, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas. While the Tigers aren’t exactly looked at as a favorite for the time being, his relationship with LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond could end up being an x-factor to watch down the line.
