Coming off a disappointing loss to Alabama, Ole Miss doesn’t get a week off as Coach Brian Kelly’s squad awaits them this weekend. With the big-time LSU football matchup less than a week away now, both teams are likely hoping to be full strength by Saturday. Unfortunately for the Rebels, Michael Katz of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal just confirmed that tight end Michael Trigg is no longer with the team in 2023.
Ole Miss is without tight end Michael Trigg ahead of 2023 LSU football matchup
You never want to be a man down, especially in the midst of SEC play. For Ole Miss, this is precisely what they’re set to face, as Michael Katz just confirmed that tight end Michael Trigg is “no longer with the team.”
Trigg has experienced an up-and-down career through three years of college football. He was a highly sought-after recruit coming out of high school, ranking No. 246 in the country, according to 247 Sports, before committing to play for USC.
However, after one relatively underwhelming season with the program, he jumped to the SEC, transferring to Ole Miss for his sophomore year.
Now, two years later, he’s no longer with the program after being on pace to have one of the best seasons of his career.
In 2023, through four games, Michael Trigg recorded four receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown, averaging 16.3 yards per reception. These numbers brought his career total to 28 receptions for 330 yards and five touchdowns.
It’s hard to say exactly where the Rebels go from here, but heading into their LSU football matchup, it’s not ideal that they’ll be without a big-time red zone threat.
Sophomore tight end Kyirin Heath and senior Caden Prieskorn will step in at the tight end position with Michael Trigg being out. They’ve combined for five receptions and 81 yards in 2023.
