The Tigers may have just suffered their biggest loss of the postseason thus far. Today, it was reported by Eric Hansen of Rivals that LSU football coordinator Mike Denbrock is expected to be hired by Notre Dame to coach offense. The Broyles Award finalist helped the purple and gold to become one of the best offenses in the country in 2023.
Notre Dame to hire LSU football coordinator Mike Denbrock
When it came to the offensive side of the ball in 2023, few, if any, had any hope of competing with the Tigers of Baton Rouge. Through 12 games, coach Brian Kelly and his squad led the country in several statistical categories, including scoring offense, total offense and third down conversion percentage.
A major reason they were so successful was LSU football coordinator Mike Denbrock. The second-year Tiger offensive coordinator had one of the best seasons in the country, and was named a finalist for the Broyles Award, annually given to the best coordinator in the country.
However, this morning, it was reported that the veteran coach will now be heading north, as Notre Dame is expected to bring him on staff for the 2024 season.
For the Tigers, this is likely their biggest loss of the year so far. Denbrock was a major reason LSU was able to win nine games in 2023, and with his departure, coach Brian Kelly is tasked with looking for a potential replacement.
Prior to his time in Baton Rouge, the veteran coordinator coached at Cincinnati, Notre Dame and Grand Valley State University, among several other stops.
