It’s opening day for coach Kim Mulkey and the Tigers, but that hasn’t stopped them from making a strong push on the recruiting trail. Most recently, LSU women’s basketball recruiting was named to the top-12 for class of 2025 five-star guard ZaKiyah Johnson.

Coach Kim Mulkey and the Tigers are yet to hit the court for the 2023-24 season, but that hasn’t stopped them from hitting the recruiting trail hard.

Even more notably, they’re making moves at the class of 2025, and so far, it is working. Yesterday, LSU women’s basketball recruiting was named a finalist for class of 2025 five-star guard ZaKiyah Johnson.

The 6-foot guard out of Sacred Heart Academy in Kentucky is one of the best players in the entire class of 2025. In fact, with an ESPN grade of 98, she ranks as the No. 5 player in the nation.

Last season, she truly started to shine, helping lead her team to the Kentucky state championship. Naturally, she’d go on to score a casual 30 as just a sophomore.

On the offensive side of the floor, the five-star guard can do it all. She has a deadly mid-range shot, can knock down the three with consistency, and possesses physicality that can rival anyone she may encounter in the paint.

Along with the Tigers, ZaKiyah Johnson is considering several of the top programs in the country, including teams like UConn, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Tennessee.
