After one successful season as the LSU tight ends coach and special teams coordinator in 2024, Slade Nagle will officially make the transition back to a Willie Fritz coaching staff as the 2025 Houston offensive coordinator.
Former LSU tight ends coach Slade Nagle takes Houston offensive coordinator position for 2025 season
Coach Slade Nagle joined Brian Kelly and the LSU football staff ahead of the 2024 season to take over for Mike Denbrock as the tight ends coach. Prior to joining on with the Tigers, he’d spent the last eight years at Tulane, working as a tight ends coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator under Willie Fritz before being appointed interim-head coach for the Green Wave’s bowl game against Virginia Tech in 2023.
Now, after just one season away from Fritz, Nagle will officially reunite with his long-time head coach, as he announced his acceptance of the 2025 Houston offensive coordinator position Thursday evening.
During his time with the purple and gold, Nagle found immediate success with an incredibly talented tight end group, and notably played a significant role in continuing the development of Mason Taylor, who will now make the jump up to the NFL later this offseason.
In total, his position room logged 68 receptions for 673 yards and four touchdowns, making this one of the best tight end seasons LSU has seen in recent memory.
Nagle also spent some time working as the Tiger special teams coordinator, and played an integral role with what turned out to be an abundantly improved unit from top to bottom. The Tigers went 36-for-36 on PAT attempts, 22-for-27 on field goal attempts and logged 695 yards and a touchdown on 38 total returns.
