Itâs amazing what just over one month can do. In late December, five-star class of 2025 safety DJ Pickett excluded LSU in his initial group of top-five schools. However, following a recent visit, the Tigers have seemingly vaulted their way onto the list.
LSU football included in latest list of top schools for five-star class of 2025 safety
Earlier this week, the 2024 cycle came to a close with National Signing Day this past Wednesday. The Tigers had a strong finish, landing at No. 7 nationally, according to the On3 rankings, but now, all focus has officially shifted to the class of 2025.
Notably, it already appears as though LSU is destined to have one of the top groups in the entire country, with three No. 1 positional players already having announced their pledge. Thus far, they rank No. 1 in the nation with nine commitments â all of which are rated as a four-star or better.
Interestingly enough, they might not be done with five-star commits either. Over the past few weeks, the purple and gold have hosted several top recruits, including multiple No. 1 positional players.
One such player was five-star class of 2025 safety DJ Pickett, who, as of today, has officially included LSU in his updated list of top-five schools.
Whatâs particularly notable about the list is that he recently released a very similar list in December, but there was one very specific difference. In Decemberâs list, there was no sign of the Tigers, but instead Alabama was featured.
Now, following many offseason moves, heâs made a small change, with the list now featuring Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan and Oregon.
Ranking as the No. 6 player nationally, according to On3, as well as No. 1 among safeties, the inclusion of the purple and gold is massive for coach Brian Kelly and the future of his football program. While thereâs still plenty of time remaining in the 2025 cycle as a whole, it appears that the big-time recruit out of Zephyrhills, FL, could be approaching a conclusion to his recruitment in the near future.
Pickett is a special player, pure and simple. Standing at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds, there are very few college players who come even close to his level of upside. In the last two seasons combined, heâs played both sides of the ball, recording 1,965 yards, 27 touchdowns, 70 tackles, five interceptions and three pass deflections.
If he can continue to add weight to his already impressive frame, he projects to be an immediate impact player at the next level regardless of where he ends up. As of right now, his recruitment appears to be wide open, but if youâre a Tiger fan, itâs hard not to feel good about the way things are trending for the purple and gold in this one.
