The LSU secondary’s stock is rising in a major way heading into 2024. Today, former Ohio State cornerback Jyaire Brown became the third transfer portal defensive back to commit to the Tigers this cycle.

Coach Brian Kelly simply keeps bringing players back home to play for LSU. As of today, 21 of the 34 new additions set to join the Tiger football program in 2024 are all from the state of Louisiana.

This is a major step in the right direction, especially considering many had concerns regarding coach Kelly and his ability to recruit in-state. After all, his ties are almost entirely to the Midwest, and had extremely limited experience in the southeast.

However, he’s clearly shut down any and all fears there, especially after today, when former Ohio State cornerback Jyaire Brown announced his commitment to transfer back home to Louisiana.

A product of New Orleans, LA, the transfer portal defensive back was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, ranking No. 30 among cornerbacks in the class of 2022. With offers from big-time programs like Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State, he looked to have significant potential with his combination of height and speed.

However, in just two years with the Buckeyes, he struggled to find his way to the field, recording just nine tackles, three passes defended and one forced fumble.

Now, even despite a lack of defensive coaches for LSU, he’s elected to make his way back to the Boot and join the Tigers as they look to take a jump in year three under coach Brian Kelly.

With three years of eligibility remaining, Brown joins a cornerback room with plenty of improvement to show in 2024. He’s also transfer addition No. 5 for the Tigers, joining wide receiver Zavion Thomas, safety Jardin Gilbert, quarterback AJ Swann and safety Austin Ausberry.
