With just days remaining until the August recruiting dead period, LSU football recruiting has found themselves as the hefty favorite for under the radar class of 2025 tight end Mike Tyler out of Columbia, SC.
LSU football beginning to trend for under the radar class of 2025 tight end recruit Mike Tyler
For the third season in a row, Mason Taylor is the name to know as far as the LSU football tight end room goes. With that said, the veteran presence isnât going to be in Baton Rouge forever, and coach Brian Kelly understands that building depth in that position group is going to be key for the future.
In turn, heâs gone ahead and brought in several elite blue chip tight ends in each of the past two classes, including four-star signings KaâMorreun Pimpton (class of 2023), Mac Markway (class of 2023) and five-star TreyâDez Green (class of 2024).
Now, as we look ahead to the class of 2025, the Tigers already possess a commitment from legacy four-star JD LaFleur, but they might not be done yet. Yesterday evening, Sonny Shipp of 247Sports went ahead and logged a crystal ball prediction for under the radar three-star Mike Tyler to ultimately end up with the purple and gold, which has the potential to be a big-time pickup over his home-state South Carolina Gamecocks.
Officially listed as a 6-foot-4, 225-pound recruit out of Columbia, SC, Tyler currently sits as the No. 661 player nationally, as well as No. 32 at his position, according to the 247Sports Composite.
While heâs not exactly the highest rated recruit coach Brian Kelly and his staff are going after, playstyle is a major thing to consider here. The Hammond School standout isnât well known for his elite ball skills or ability to take the top off the defense, but what he does excel at is blocking, and more importantly, finishing blocks downfield.
In the midst of his third visit with the purple and gold of the summer, LSU football appears to be the hefty favorite â holding a 90.1 percent chance according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine â but itâs important to keep in mind that NC State, Ole Miss and South Carolina have each made a strong push in their own right.
Ranking No. 3 nationally, and No. 2 within the SEC for the class of 2025 recruiting cycle, coach Brian Kelly and his squad have a bright future ahead of them, regardless of the outcome in this particular recruitment. Even so, look for the Tigers to keep their foot on the gas in this one up to the very end, as they look to separate themselves ahead of the upcoming dead period next month.
