Today’s the final day of the EA Sports “rankings week showcase,” which means its time to look at some overall team power ratings. While the Tiger defensive unit was only listed at No. 18 overall, their No. 6 offense appears to be carrying coach Brian Kelly and his squad heading into 2024, landing the entire LSU football roster within the top-10 nationally, according to the video gaming company.
EA Sports awards the 2024 LSU football roster with a 90 overall rating
Coming off of two-straight 10-win seasons under head coach Brian Kelly, the Tigers have consistently competed among the very best teams in the country, but are yet to truly break through as national title contenders.
As we look ahead to the 2024 college football season, the early signs show that the LSU football roster should once again be sitting around that same range, as they’ve most commonly appeared around the top-10 overall.
Once again, this sentiment was recently echoed, as EA Sports released their top-25 power rankings for the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 video game release, and they notably had the purple and gold sitting strong at No. 8 nationally.
Officially being rated as a 90 overall roster, the video gaming company appears to hold the Bayou Bengals in a similar regard as Clemson (No. 6) and Notre Dame (No. 7), both of which shared the exact same rating.
Offense should be the driving force for coach Brian Kelly and his team in 2024, but it’s important to note that there’s some serious star power on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and an offensive line that returns four starters – left tackle Will Campbell, left guard Garrett Dellinger, right guard Miles Frazier and right tackle Emery Jones Jr – are likely to be the stars of the show in 2024 as far as scoring the ball goes. Additionally, with plenty of veteran presence among the pass catchers, there’s truly no shortage of weapons to throw the ball to.
On defense, star linebacker Harold Perkins Jr will take the bulk of headlines this coming season, but there are several other pieces who could be on the verge of a breakout year. Freshman defensive lineman Dominick McKinley looks primed to be a star for the Tigers, while young cornerbacks Ashton Stamps and PJ Woodland have been dominant all offseason.
While top-10 nationally isn’t exactly the goal for the Tigers heading into 2024, it’s at least a solid place to start, and with big-time matchups against USC, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Alabama this season, they’ll have plenty of time to boost their ratings before the video game rosters are all said and done.
