This could be a big one for coach Brian Kelly. LSU football already has three wide receiver commitments to their class of 2024, but the Tigers aren’t done yet. One of the fastest players in the class and top wide receiver target Jelani Watkins just named LSU as one of his four finalists.

LSU football named a finalist for elite Texas-based wide receiver Jelani Watkins

Jelani Watkins has blazing speed, pure and simple. The Houston, TX, product is one of the fastest players in the country, regardless of class. With that kind of speed, he will make some program very happy in the near future.

That could be excellent news for coach Brian Kelly, as he appears to be very warm on the Tigers right now. According to On3, LSU football has a 98.7 percent chance at landing his commitment.

Now, adding to the positive news, Watkins just released his finalists and LSU football was included on the list.

According to 247 Sports, Jelani Watkins is the No. 112 player nationally, the No. 22 wide receiver and the No. 21 player in Texas. Aside from football, the class of 2024 wide receiver plans on running track and field in college.

While his sprinting ability is impressive as is, with a 10.33-second 100-meter dash, it’s his sustained speed that is truly elite. In April this year, he clocked a 20.39-second 200-meter. That almost shouldn’t be possible, but here we are.

Along with LSU football, he included Arkansas, Texas and Texas A&M in his final four. Just as we see so often with southeast recruits, it’s looking like a very SEC-heavy battle.

Regardless of which school he eventually chooses, he’ll be making two programs very happy with his commitment. The football team, along with the track and field team, will be getting a future star. There’s no doubt coach Brian Kelly and coach Dennis Shaver will each be pushing hard to win him over throughout the rest of his recruitment.
