LSU football has one position in mind ahead of spring transfer portal window

There’s no doubt about team needs ahead of the spring transfer portal window for coach Brian Kelly!

The Tiger football roster is in a very different point today than it was just one year ago. Last spring, the defensive tackle position room was filled with elite veterans who likely had futures in the NFL. This year, it’s a bit of a different situation and if you ask LSU coach Brian Kelly what he’s prioritizing for the spring transfer portal window, there’s very little doubt about which position he’s keeping an eye on.

Allow me to preface this by saying that there is plenty of talent in the purple and gold defensive tackle room. Unfortunately, most of said talent is just unproven and hasn’t seen a ton of starting snaps in the SEC.

In turn, it should come as little to no surprise that there’s some early concerns about the group as a whole heading into the 2024 season. Already, LSU coach Brian Kelly is beginning to think about dipping his toes into the portal once again to try and fill in some depth, with the chance of maybe landing an immediate impact player in the process.

“I don’t see any other positions that we need to be in the transfer portal for other than the defensive tackle position, really,” the Tiger head coach said while previewing the 2024 LSU football spring game.

As of today, the main candidates who appear poised to potentially earn some big-time snaps in 2024 include freshman Dominick McKinley and seniors Jacobian Guillory, Jalen Lee and Paris Shand.

Additionally, the Tigers just brought in defensive lineman Gio Paez out of Wisconsin, who should figure into the lineup by the time he steps foot on campus ahead of the 2024 college football season.

While it’s hard to say who exactly the purple and gold will target once the spring transfer portal window opens up, one name to keep a close watch on is Philip Blidi out of Indiana, who most recently visited Baton Rouge earlier this week.
