And with that, LSU football has all but completed its defensive staff as we look ahead to the 2024 season. Today, it was reported that coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers are expected to bring in Jake Olsen as their new safeties coach.

If there’s one thing to be certain of as we look over the new and improved LSU defensive coaching staff, it’s that they’re all relatively familiar with each other. More specifically, they all have a connection to new Tiger defensive coordinator Blake Baker, who was officially hired shortly following the New Year’s Day ReliaQuest Bowl victory.

Just over a week ago, Bo Davis – who was on staff with Blake Baker at Texas in 2011-12 – was first brought on as the new defensive line coach. Two days later, Kevin Peoples, who coached at Missouri this past year, was then brought on to likely coach the edge rushers.

Within the last few days, LSU has just about completed its defensive back coaching room. First up was cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond who is being brought back on staff after formerly being with the Tigers from 2012-21.

Now, most recently, it was reported that coach Brian Kelly will bring on former Missouri staffer Jake Olsen as their new safeties coach.

Olsen was previously a defensive analyst with the purple and gold in 2021 before following Blake Baker to the Missouri staff for the last two seasons.

With this most recent hire, the Tiger defensive coaching staff has officially been flipped. After firing four staff members earlier this year, coach Brian Kelly was faced with quite the challenge.

However, he never hesitated, and in turn, the purple and gold appear to have a greatly upgraded staff, all of which can recruit and have ties to the Louisiana area.

As we look ahead to the 2024 season, there are only a few remaining coaching spots to keep an eye on. The main ones will be offensive coordinator and tight ends coach, both of which were emptied when Mike Denbrock left for the Notre Dame opening.
