If there’s one specific position LSU football has recruited exceptionally well for the class of 2024, it’s linebacker. The Tigers already have four committed to the program, with all four rated as a four-star. Still, coach Brian Kelly doesn’t appear to be slowing down at the position, with LSU football battling Arkansas for elite Louisiana-based linebacker Tylen Singleton.
LSU football viewed as favorites to land four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton
Has anyone ever stopped to think that Brian Kelly just wants the entire state of Louisiana to commit to his program? Even if he does, it isn’t a bad strategy. There’s plenty of talent in the area, and LSU football is the premier team in the state.
Linebacker Tylen Singleton is one of the best prospects in the area. He also happens to be the No. 1 linebacker in the state. It would be massive for Kelly and the entire Tiger defense if they can gain his commitment.
Still, gaining his commitment might be easier said than done. Several SEC programs, such as Arkansas, Tennessee and Texas A&M, are vying for his commitment, and for good reason.
According to the ON3 Industry Ranking, he’s rated a class of 2024 four-star, the No. 138 player nationally and the No. 11 linebacker. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect is one of the country’s best players, and any team would be lucky to have him.
As things stand, ON3 gives LSU football an 83.7 percent chance at gaining his commitment. Behind the Tigers are Arkansas (5.0 percent), Tennessee (4.3 percent) and Texas A&M (1.8 percent).
With LSU football battling Arkansas, among others, the recruiting process is still wide open. In fact, he visited Texas A&M over the weekend and appeared to have a wonderful time.
The Tigers have some work to do in this recruitment, but he would be a fantastic pick-up if Brian Kelly can find a way to keep him in-state.
Singleton could fill multiple positions for the Tigers
According to most recruiting sites, the class of 2024 star’s primary position is linebacker. Still, unlike most players, it doesn’t seem like he’s stuck there.
At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he has a unique frame that could allow him to transition to the defensive backfield as a safety. With this being a significant position of need for the Tigers, that’s fantastic news for fans of the program.
While the prospect out of Many, LA is a football player first and foremost; he’s also a track and field star. Running a 22.63-second 200-meter dash as a sophomore, he has plenty of speed, which could allow him to easily transition to safety in college.
If he were to play safety instead of linebacker, he’d be a scary matchup for just about anyone. With the size of a linebacker and speed of a cornerback, watch out.
This recruitment isn’t over until national signing day, but it’s hard not to feel good about where LSU football stands. Expect Brian Kelly to make a strong push to the end, doing everything he can to keep him within state lines.
