One of the more underrated aspects of recruiting is the scouting phase. If you have good scouts in place, it’s easier to get the jump on a recruitment before things really take off. For LSU football, they appear to be doing some things right in that department, particularly in the class of 2026. One of the best examples is that the Tigers were among the first 10 programs to offer Louisiana-based defensive lineman Lamar Brown.

It sticks out to recruits when a program is one of the first to recruit them. It not only shows their awareness of your talent, but it also shows that they care enough to reach out in the early stages.

The class of 2024 is far from being all wrapped up. We’re still months away from National Signing Day, but that hasn’t stopped programs from looking to the future.

LSU football is one such program, as it recently came out that they were one of just 10 college football teams to offer elite class of 2026 defensive lineman Lamar Brown.

Along with the Tigers, Georgia, Texas A&M and Ole Miss are the only other SEC programs to have offered him.

While the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, native isn’t yet ranked, it shouldn’t take long for him to quickly be viewed as one of the best in the country. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive lineman has both the size and speed to be a star in a year or two.

Brown showed off some elite agility at a camp in Baton Rouge last month

While Lamar Brown isn’t technically allowed to take any official visits to schools yet, the fact that he lives in Baton Rouge makes things a bit easier for the Tigers. In fact, in early June, the class of 2026 defensive lineman attended an LSU Elite Camp and absolutely showed out.

Despite his large frame, he has incredible quickness. Not only does he have the strength to push through opposing linemen, but he possesses the flexibility to bend around them as well.

For obvious reasons, the coaching staff was impressed. However, this was nothing new to them as they’d been the first school to offer him back in June of last year.

Here is what Cody Bellaire, a scout for On3, had to say regarding Brown’s performance at the camp:

“Brown showed why he is one of the most highly coveted prospects in the 2026 class. The frame is fantastic, he will add weight throughout his frame with ease and is one of the best big-man movers for his age I have ever seen with my own eyes. Whether it is on offense or defense, Brown showed why he garners so much attention when he shows up to an event.”

The class of 2026 defensive lineman has elite talent and should easily be one of the best recruits in Louisiana. Now, coach Brian Kelly will need to find a way to keep Brown in-state to play for the Tigers.
