Heading into what was expected to be a largely uneventful National Signing Day today, things have mostly followed the script many anticipated. Still, one pleasant surprise came this morning, as LSU landed a commitment from class of 2024 preferred walk-on quarterback Knox Dyson.
LSU lands commitment from class of 2024 preferred walk-on quarterback
Even just two months ago, the LSU football quarterback room had some major concerns as far as depth goes ahead of the 2024 season. However, even with the loss of Jayden Daniels to the NFL draft, the Tigers have rapidly turned it into a strength.
In early December, it seemed as though the Tigers would have just three scholarship quarterbacks on roster heading into the next season, headlined by projected starter Garrett Nussmeier. While undoubtedly talented, the lack of experience was concerning, as two of said players are set to be redshirt freshmen or younger in 2024.
Those concerns didn’t last long, as on December 18, Vanderbilt transfer AJ Swann announced his commitment to make his way down to Baton Rouge. Notably, Swann is a quarterback who has SEC starting experience. If an injury does by chance arise, there’s little doubt the purple and gold now have at least one solid backup to step up to the plate.
With that one commitment, things were looking solid for coach Brian Kelly and his squad, but following today’s announcement, things are only looking better. This morning, LSU landed a commitment from class of 2024 preferred walk-on quarterback Knox Dyson.
Dyson, a pro style quarterback out of Tahlequah, OK, is a currently unranked recruit, with the potential to surprise some people as a college level walk-on. Standing at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, he has a big arm with an notable level of accuracy on shots down the field.
Even more notable is his level of confidence. In 12 games, the Beggs High School standout threw the ball 257 times for 2,854 yards and 31 touchdowns, averaging over 16 yards per completion. Furthermore, his 11.1 yards per pass attempt are comparable to that of Jayden Daniels in 2023, who led the FBS with 11.66 yards per attempt.
Along with LSU, some schools that showed interest in the Oklahoma-based quarterback were Arkansas, Houston, Texas Tech and Wisconsin.
With today’s addition, Knox Dyson, along with fellow class of 2024 commitment Colin Hurley will join one of the more complete quarterback rooms in college football heading into the upcoming season.
