LSU basketball recruiting has been on a roll of late in a big way. In just the past few weeks, the Tigers have been named a finalist for some of the top recruits. Most recently, coach Matt McMahon’s squad was included in the top eight for class of 2024 four-star wing Annor Boateng.

LSU basketball recruiting named a finalist for four-star wing Annor Boateng

Technically, LSU basketball recruiting doesn’t have a single commit in its class of 2024. Still, it’s not due to a lack of effort. The Tigers have made several lists of finalists of late, most recently for four-star wing Annor Boateng.

Along with LSU basketball, the Tigers are facing plenty of SEC powers for the coveted small forward. Arkansas, Auburn and Missouri were each among his top eight schools.

Boateng, a Little Rock, AR, product is one of the best players in the entire class of 2024. According to the 247 Sports Composite, he’s the No. 28 player nationally and the No. 1 player out of Arkansas.

Furthermore, he ranks as the No. 11 small forward in the entire country, one of the most sought after positions in basketball.

Boateng plays basketball at an incredibly high level

Standing at 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, Boateng isn’t necessarily the biggest wing in the class of 2024. Still, he plays far taller and stronger than his measurables imply.

A big reason for this is the fact that he isn’t afraid of contact. In fact, he might actually look for contact, consistently going hard to the basket for potential poster dunks.

One of my favorite aspects of him is the fact that he isn’t a one-trick pony. Often, when you find a player with elite athleticism, that’s about all he can do. With Boateng, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The four-star wing is more than capable of scoring from all levels, and is capable enough of a ball-handler to create his own shots. For LSU basketball, which is still looking to create an identity under coach Matt McMahon, this could be perfect.

The Tigers are looking for someone to take over, similarly to what McMahon had with Ja Morant at Murray State. While I am by no means comparing Annor Boateng to Morant, he has the confidence and ability to build an offense around.

Just being named a finalist for the elite talent is excellent news for LSU basketball. Now, it’s just a matter of McMahon finding a way to seal the deal and earn a commitment from the class of 2024 wing.
