LSU basketball needs all the help it can get, and they’re inching closer to a possible major contributor. On May 31, transfer portal guard Zyon Pullin announced his top five schools, which included Florida, LSU, Michigan, Xavier and Gonzaga. Now, he’s narrowed his list to his top two: Florida and LSU.

LSU basketball is facing off against Florida for top transfer portal guard Zyon Pullin

Basketball season isn’t for another five months, but the Tigers are already going head-to-head against one of their in-conference foes. According to ESPN, LSU basketball and Florida are the top two remaining schools vying for star transfer portal guard Zyon Pullin.

Pullin is one of the top uncommitted prospects left in the country. According to 247 Sports, he ranks as the No. 7 remaining transfer target and a four-star prospect.

If LSU basketball were to earn his commitment, he would be one of the top transfers in an already elite Tiger transfer portal class. He would also be the second point guard to commit to the program.

Pullin would be a fantastic fit with the Tigers

One thing is certain about Zyon Pullin; he is not afraid of competition. Both LSU basketball and Florida currently have elite four-star point guards committed to their transfer portal classes. If those two programs are indeed his top two, he’s likely confident in his ability to come in and win a starting job.

That’s rare in college basketball, especially in the current transfer portal era. Nowadays, many players immediately transfer at the first sign of competition. It seems as though Pullin is making his decision based on wanting the opportunity to compete.

At UC Riverside, he’s the star of the show. He knows he’ll get the ball, and all eyes are typically on him. Now, he’s trading that away to get some power five exposure and possibly a better shot at the NBA.

Ultimately, it could be a perfect match if the Tigers win over his commitment. With former Tulane guard Jalen Cook already committed, it would give LSU basketball an elite one-two punch at point guard to rotate in and out. That alone would be an immediate advantage over their competition.

It would mean they could rest their players while ensuring the ball is always in responsible hands. For LSU basketball, picking up a player like Zyon Pullin would be a dream. Now, Matt McMahon just needs to make it come true.
