After many weeks of waiting in anticipation, star LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr was most recently reported to be available for tonight’s matchup vs. Texas A&M, boding incredibly well for a Tiger passing game that’s been in search of a consistent deep threat.
Star LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr reportedly ‘will play’ in tonight’s matchup vs. Texas A&M
Well Tiger fans, the day – reportedly – has finally arrived.
The LSU football offense hasn’t exactly been struggling to move the ball thus far in 2024. In fact, led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, the purple and gold have largely continued their dominant ways on the offensive side of the ball under head coach Brian Kelly.
In fact, from an improved running game, to a career season from the star signal caller, the offense has actually looked improved from last season in certain ways. If anything, the one lacking aspect on this year’s unit has been an inability to produce explosive plays down the field. Whether it be a lack of separation from the pass catchers or some slight inaccuracies from Nussmeier on his deep ball, something’s been off.
With all of that said, a difference maker might finally be arriving, as Pete Thamel of ESPN reported this morning that speedy LSU wide receiver Chris Hilton Jr “will play” and was even upgraded to “probable” just last night on the SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report.
In addition to Hilton Jr’s return from injury, it’s important to note that fellow wide receiver CJ Daniels is also reportedly looking like a “game-time decision,” which is about as good a string of news as the Tiger offense could have hoped for.
While the pair likely won’t be playing every snap, as they work their way back into a full workload, the addition is certainly notable for this LSU passing game, and very easily could lead to an explosive play or two this evening in College Station, TX.
Outside of the wide receiver duo, LSU is keeping an eye on multiple lingering injuries for impact players, including that of defensive tackle Kimo Makane’ole (questionable), linebacker Greg Penn III (probable), running back Caden Durham (probable) and offensive lineman Miles Frazier (probable).
While the the Aggies don’t have quite as deep an injury report, they will notably be working without star sophomore offensive lineman Chase Bisontis, as he works his way back from a lower body injury sustained vs. Mississippi State.
The purple and gold will soon take the field this evening against Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will take place at Kyle Field, College Station, TX, and will be available to watch live on ABC or ESPN+.
