The world of college football recruiting giveth, and it taketh away. After a string of good fortune for LSU football recruiting, coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers received some less-than-ideal news as class of 2024 four-star cornerback Cai Bates announced his decommitment.

Top-100 cornerback Cai Bates announces decommitment from LSU football recruiting

Class of 2024 cornerback Cai Bates initially announced his commitment to LSU football recruiting in late July. At the time, it was one of the biggest gets for coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers for the entire class.

However, things have been trending in the wrong direction of late, and it finally came to a head as the four-star defensive back announced his decommitment this evening.

Bates, a native of Orlando, FL, is one of the more coveted recruits for the entire class of 2024 at his position. Standing at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, he has something you simply can’t teach: size.

However, size isn’t his only impressive trait. He also possesses serious speed and background as a wide receiver, making him absolutely lethal on the defensive side of the ball.

Unfortunately, all of this equates to a significant loss for the Tigers, as the No. 98 player in the country, according to the 247 Sports Composite, has reopened his recruitment.

Whether this has opened the door for another potential commitment down the line for LSU football recruiting is yet to be seen. However, for now, coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers might have missed out on a big-time talent today.
