Earlier today, four-star quarterback Carter Smith committed to the University of Michigan. Oddly enough, this commitment could prove to be a massive boost for the LSU football recruiting class of 2025 and its efforts with five-star Bryce Underwood.
Four-star quarterback Carter Smith commits to Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines
Today, coach Jim Harbaugh and Michigan received a major win in the recruiting class of 2025.
Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback from Fort Myers, FL, just announced his commitment to the program. This is likely excellent news for the Wolverines, as they’ve secured their signal caller of the future.
According to On3, Smith ranks as the No. 8 quarterback and the No. 112 player in the country. Standing at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, he’s a more than capable runner and passer, so Wolverine fans should be thrilled by the pickup.
Oddly enough, fans up north shouldn’t be the only ones excited, as this commitment could lead to future good news for coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers.
How does this impact the LSU football recruiting class of 2025?
Historically, it’s rare for a college football program to pick up more than one elite quarterback in a class. Often, it’s difficult to get elite prospects in back-to-back classes due to the perception of competition.
So, what exactly does Michigan commit Carter Smith have to do with LSU football? Well, for starters, it likely means that the Wolverines have found their quarterback for the class of 2025, meaning they might be moving on to other positions.
For the LSU football recruiting class of 2025, this couldn’t be any better for its pursuit of elite five-star Bryce Underwood.
Up to this point, it’s looked like a two-horse race for the No. 1 player in the country out of Belleville, MI: LSU and Michigan. However, coach Jim Harbaugh landing this commitment today could mean that coach Brian Kelly has taken the lead in this recruitment.
That said, anything can happen in the world of recruiting, and we won’t truly know anything until Bryce Underwood makes his final decision on January 6.
Still, if you’re coach Brian Kelly, you have to feel good about your chances following today’s announcement. The work isn’t done, but if they can bring the Michigan native down to Baton Rouge, it will be excellent for the future of LSU football.
