As July comes to an end and the football season draws closer, we’re beginning to get a sense for the LSU football recruiting board. Right up near the top of the board is class of 2024 cornerback Cai Bates. The Tigers have been the favorites to land him for some time, and today, he finally announced his commitment date.
Four-star LSU football recruiting target Cai Bates will announce his college decision this month
This could be big for coach Brian Kelly! The month of June was largely unsuccessful for the second-year coach in terms of recruiting the defensive secondary. While the Tigers received two commitments, they also received two decommitments.
The total currently sits at five, with only two cornerback commits, so there’s almost certainly room for one or two more. Now, as we approach the end of summer, the Tigers might have their sights set on the next big commitment.
Earlier this afternoon, LSU football recruiting target Cai Bates announced his college decision date.
Notably, he’s announcing his final college decision on July 26th. Later that same week, LSU football will host their annual “Bayou Splash” event, their last big summer recruiting weekend. With Bates electing to announce his decision prior to the event, he could be looking to solidify his spot in the class before the big weekend.
The Tigers have been the favorites for most of Bates’ recruitment
If LSU football can find a way to land a commitment from Bates, it would be an elite pickup. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound recruit out of Florida has consistently been one of the best cornerbacks in the entire class.
He currently ranks as the No. 103 recruit nationally and the No. 9 cornerback, according to 247 Sports.
The Tigers are competing with several other SEC schools for the elite cornerback target. Among his finalists are Alabama, Florida State, Colorado, Tennessee, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, LSU football is the current favorite to land the class of 2024 commitment. They give the Tigers a slight lead over Florida State, with a 23.9 percent chance.
