Coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers have faced quite the SEC gauntlet over the last two seasons and have still come away with at least nine wins both times. Nevertheless, things aren’t getting any easier. Today, the full 2024 LSU football schedule was released, and already things are shaping up to be the most difficult since Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge.
Coach Brian Kelly and the Tigers have quite the gauntlet ahead of them
When it came to the 2023 college football season, there were some high expectations. Still, internally, coach Brian Kelly knew the team might not be fully ready and instead pointed out 2024 as the year to watch for a significant jump.
Now, let’s be clear, that doesn’t mean it’s an easy schedule by any means. If anything, it has the potential to be one of the most difficult of coach Kelly’s tenure with the Tigers.
Luckily, most of the difficult games are at home, making things much more manageable from an off-field distraction point of view. For the 2024 LSU football schedule, there are only four true away games, all of which are in the SEC, as they’ll head to Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and Texas A&M.
With that said, the home schedule is where things get particularly difficult. Out of their seven games in Baton Rouge, the Tigers will face off against several potential top-25 level teams, including Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and UCLA, with Nicholls State, Vanderbilt and South Alabama rounding things out.
Finally, LSU will head to Las Vegas, NV, to open the season against USC in a non-conference, neutral site matchup on Sunday, September 1.
The schedule is without a doubt difficult, but certain aspects of it couldn’t have lined up much better for the Tigers. How many overall and SEC wins LSU earns is yet to be seen, but there’s little doubt the entertainment factor will be abundant throughout the entire 2024 season.
