The transfer portal is running rampant in 2023, and despite the lack of commitments, the purple and gold have been right in the thick of it all. In the past two cycles, coach Brian Kelly has landed 29 portal additions, and while he’s likely to be much more selective this time around, several big-time names are considering the Tigers. Recently, LSU began to trend as the favorite for SEC transfer portal wide receiver Zavion Thomas.

Coach Brian Kelly and his team are yet to land a single commitment in the class of 2024 transfer portal. Nevertheless, that could be changing fairly quickly in the near future.

When Mississippi State wide receiver Zavion Thomas entered the portal early last week, the Tigers immediately became a hot name to land him, thanks in large part to his being from Marrero, LA.

As we’re a bit over a week into the transfer portal, things are once again beginning to move towards Baton Rouge. Today, both Bryce Koon and Sonny Shipp of 247Sports released crystal ball predictions in favor of LSU football.

The SEC transfer portal wide receiver ranks among the best in the country, sitting at No. 65 nationally among all transfers. This is a major step forward from his original recruiting rank, as he was just the No. 46 wide receiver out of the class of 2022.

Thomas as a Bulldog

If the Tigers continue to trend in the right direction for the former Mississippi State star, it would give them an immediate playmaker both on offense and special teams.

In his two seasons with the Bulldogs, Zavion Thomas was nearly impossible to stop once the ball was in his hands. On 93 touches, the playmaker has gained 1,188 yards and three touchdowns in the past two seasons.

Regardless of where he ends up in 2024, he’ll be faced with his third head coach in three seasons. How this impacts his ability to make an immediate impact is yet to be seen, but there’s little doubt he has the ability to impress early and often.
