We’ve made it! It’s officially game day for Tiger fans, as the purple and gold are set to face Florida State in Orlando this evening of week one at Camping World Stadium. While the Tigers aren’t quite 100% healthy, they’re about as close as you could hope to get, as coach Brian Kelly outlined his final LSU football injury report earlier this week.
LSU football injury report: Out (Non-Injury)
- Junior DT Maason Smith
- Senior RB John Emery Jr.
The Tigers have two players who won’t be available for this week’s game due to non-injury-related issues.
Defensive tackle Maason Smith is one, having been suspended by the NCAA for the LSU football week one matchup. He and former LSU football wide receiver Kayshon Boutte took part in an autograph signing event before NIL in the summer of 2021. While he was initially expected to serve his suspension last season, an early season injury derailed those plans.
Running back John Emery Jr. is the second such unavailability for week one. While we don’t have specifics for him, it appears he is in good standing with the program and should be back by the week three Mississippi State game.
“John is in good standing with the program. He’s done everything that we’ve asked him to do,” said Kelly regarding the senior running back.
Out (Injury)
As far as injuries go, the only player whom Brian Kelly outlined as unavailable is junior running back Armoni Goodwin. He’s been working through a hamstring injury and suffered a season-ending injury last season.
“He’s working hard to get back, but he’ll be out for this weekend,” Kelly reported on the status of Goodwin. “It’s probably going to be another week.”
Probable
- Grad student RB Josh Williams
- Redshirt sophomore OL Kimo Makane’ole
The good news for LSU football fans is the fact that the Tigers are getting healthy at the perfect time. There were several significant injuries throughout last season, but heading into week one of 2023, the players are looking to get past them.
While running back Josh Williams and offensive lineman Kimo Makane’ole were questionable for this week’s matchup not too long ago, coach Brian Kelly revealed that both players would make the trip to Orlando and are upgraded to “probable.”
The LSU football season kicks off this evening versus Florida State at 6:30 p.m. CST at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL. The game will be available to watch live on ABC.
