Over the weekend, yet another former LSU women’s basketball guard announced her future transfer destination. After entering the portal just over a week ago, rising sophomore Janae Kent will make her way to in-conference Texas A&M for the 2024-25 season.

Former LSU women’s basketball guard announces transfer destination

It’s never ideal to lose a high-potential player to the transfer portal, but it stings even more when they end up with an in-conference foe.

Former LSU freshman guard Janae Kent first announced her intent to transfer on April 12, 2024, making her the third Tiger guard to enter the portal since the conclusion of the 2023-24 women’s college basketball season.

Now, a little more than a week later, the former top-100 recruit in the class of 2023 has announced that she’ll be staying in-conference and will make her way to College Station, TX, to play for the Texas A&M Aggies in 2024-25.

While struggling initially to find consistent playing time, Kent proved to be a solid depth piece for the purple and gold by season’s end, making 32 appearances, including one start.

The 6-foot-1 Oak Forest, IL, product managed to log 1.6 points, 0.8 rebounds, 0.4 steals and 0.2 blocks, while averaging 8.0 minutes per game. Notably, this included a total of 56 minutes of game action within the SEC Tournament, giving her some excellent experience that she’ll be able to take into the rest of her career.

With her decision to stay inside the SEC, Kent has an opportunity to provide immediate minutes for a Texas A&M roster that lost several major pieces to the transfer portal this offseason including fellow guards Kay Kay Green and Tineya Hylton.

Former LSU senior guard Hailey Van Lith was the first to announce her transfer destination, joining the TCU women’s basketball program, while fellow rising sophomore Angelica Velez is yet to make her final decision.
