One of the greatest college football careers of all-time is officially coming to an end. Today, Chris Lowe of ESPN reported that former LSU football head coach, and current Alabama coach Nick Saban has informed his team that he’ll retire.

Former LSU football head coach Nick Saban reportedly to retire

The legend of former LSU football head coach Nick Saban is one that will live on for the rest of time. After getting his first head coaching gig at Toledo in 1990, the name of Nick Saban has largely struck fear into just about any and all of his opponents.

In fact, outside of his five-year stint with Michigan State from 1995-99, only two of his teams have lost five or more games. Furthermore, over the course of his storied career, the veteran head coach has won an astounding seven national championships with 11 SEC titles to go along with it. As if that weren’t enough, he even came away with the MAC championship in his lone season with Toledo.

All of this is to say that one of, if not the greatest college football head coach of all-time has reportedly retired as we look ahead to the 2024 season.

Despite being largely known for his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide, it’s important to note that Nick Saban won his first national championship with the Tigers in Baton Rouge.

In just five seasons with LSU, the legendary coach won 48 total games, including three bowl game victories and a national championship during the 2003 year. Unfortunately, he’d later make his way to Tuscaloosa and beat the purple and gold 13 times out the last 18 matchups between the two schools.

Despite having spent just a short time with the Tigers, there’s no denying his stint will forever live on in the hearts of LSU fans, largely thanks to his 2003 team.

Now, after winning 292 games in 28 seasons, the former head coach will look to retire, leaving the rest of the SEC wondering, who’s next?
