It’s always a good idea to go after the top players in the country. This rings especially true when trying to turn a program around – practically from the ground up. With coach Matt McMahon looking to build up his program, class of 2025 point guard Darius Acuff Jr is a name to keep an eye on. The Michigan-based five-star is electric and just received an offer from LSU basketball.

While coach Matt McMahon has been elite in the transfer portal, he’s left things to be desired on the recruiting trail. For the class of 2023, the Tigers have two commitments. Both players – Mikey Williams and Corey Chest – have the potential to make an impact in the future. They just don’t have the game-breaking talent LSU basketball needs right now.

Coach Matt McMahon doesn’t have any commitments in either the class of 2024 or the class of 2025, though. So, one way to change that is to keep on recruiting.

That’s precisely what he’s doing, as the Tigers just offered five-star Cass Tech point guard Darius Acuff Jr.

According to 247 Sports, Acuff Jr is the No. 11 player nationally and No. 1 at the point guard position. He’s also the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan for the class of 2025.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect has the potential to make an immediate impact for LSU basketball. Few control the pick-and-roll better than him, and he could take control of the offense from day one.

As things stand, the Michigan Wolverines appear to be favorites to land him. Still, his recruitment is largely wide open, giving opportunity to McMahon to slide in and make an impression.
