I think it’s safe to say coach Brian Kelly has figured out how to recruit the state of Louisiana. LSU football has always been the school when it comes to Louisiana college sports. Because of that, it’s even more crucial for the Tigers to dominate recruiting in the area. The Tigers currently have nine Louisiana natives committed to the class, and they’re working on a 10th – recently receiving a crystal ball for class of 2024 defensive back Joel Rogers.

LSU football receives a crystal ball prediction for defensive back, Joel Rogers

Coach Brian Kelly has made the defensive back positions a priority for the class of 2024. They already have four committed and are trending for several others.

If the Tigers can secure commitments from at least a few of these players, it could be big for the future of the program. Transfers help a ton, don’t get me wrong. Still, you build a college football program through high school recruiting.

That’s how you find guys who know the program and can help to build a culture. That is precisely what Brian Kelly is doing, and it seems like he’s using the state of Louisiana to help build that culture.

Most recently, defensive back Joel Rogers received a crystal ball from Steve Wiltfong, predicting him to commit to Baton Rouge. In fact, the Tigers have been trending for Rogers’ talents since they offered him on May 18.

Rogers is a 6-foot, 180-pound athlete who projects as a safety at the next level. He’s a four-star recruit, ranked as the No. 304 player nationally, the No. 30 safety and the No. 8 player in Louisiana, per 247 Sports.

If he commits to the Tigers, he’ll be the 10th commit from Louisiana and likely will not be the last.

The Tigers’ competition for Rogers

Honestly, it’ll be quite a surprise if it turns out that Rogers doesn’t end up in the purple and gold. Still, nothing is a guarantee in college football recruiting – so who else could win him over?

Well, for the time being, it seems like Alabama is the only remaining competition. Along with LSU, he scheduled official visits to Alabama and TCU.

If either of those schools were to win him over, it would be a shock to just about everyone. All signs point to him ending up in Baton Rouge, so keep an eye on Rogers going forward.

Within the month, the Tigers could be up to 17 recruits for the class of 2024, and Joel Rogers very well could be that lucky No. 17.
