Continuing to bolster their class of 2025 group, LSU football most recently landed their second commitment from a tight end recruit, as South Carolina-based three-star Mike Tyler announced his pledge earlier this evening.
LSU football receives commitment from impressive South Carolina-based tight end recruit
Once again, coach Brian Kelly has proven that heâs willing to put in some serious work to create one of the top tight end rooms in all of college football.
As a part of the class of 2022, the Tiger head coach first landed a commitment from three-star Mason Taylor out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. At the time, it didnât exactly make for any major headlines, but as it would turn out, it probably should have, as the 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end recruit would quickly turn into one of the top players at his position in the entire country.
Sure enough, this kind of recruiting at the position would turn into something of a trend, as coach Kelly has since landed commitments from 6-foot-6 KaâMorreun Pimpton, as well as five-star TreyâDez Green, whoâs somehow listed even taller at 6-foot-7.
Now, as we look ahead to the upcoming class of 2025, the momentum doesnât appear to be going away. Earlier today, the purple and gold received their second tight end commitment of the cycle, as Columbia, SC, product Mike Tyler is officially set to make his way to Baton Rouge, LA, for the 2025 college football season.
Officially listed as a 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end and the No. 597 player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite, Tyler wonât exactly âwowâ you from a physicality standpoint, but his athleticism is some of the very best in the entire class of 2025.
Having finished the 2023 season with 33 receptions for 543 yards and seven touchdowns, the talented South Carolina-based recruit certainly showed the ability to not only block downfield for his fellow pass catchers, but his ability to outrun defenses for big gains was something that without a doubt caught the eye of the Tiger coaching staff.
Possessing offers from several of the top college football programs, such as NC State, South Carolina and UCF, Tyler ultimately picked the purple and gold over Duke and West Virginia, joining legacy recruit JD LaFleur as the two tight end commitments of the cycle for the LSU football program.
