For what seems like the 20th day in a row, LSU football has officially landed yet another commitment! While the last few have been from class of 2024 recruits, the Tigers changed things up with a class of 2025 target. Today, coach Brian Kelly landed a commitment from elite legacy recruit, tight end JD LaFleur.

LSU football lands a commitment from elite legacy recruit JD LaFleur

The name LaFleur likely means something to most fans of the LSU Tiger football program. David LaFleur is widely known as one of the best tight ends to ever don the purple and gold.

In four seasons with the Tigers, LaFleur recorded 71 receptions for 881 yards and five touchdowns. He went on to ride that collegiate success into the NFL, as he was drafted by the Cowboys in the first round of the 1997 NFL draft.

Now, it appears that he’s passing the baton down to his son, class of 2025 tight end JD LaFleur.

The younger LaFleur is an elite legacy recruit, already being considered one of the best tight ends in the class of 2025. He currently ranks No. 339 nationally and No. 13 at his position. In addition, he ranks No. 9 in the state of Louisiana.

Committing to the Tigers is a dream come true for JD LaFleur

It’s not often that you get the chance to play for the team you grew up watching. Naturally, for JD LaFleur, his team was the LSU Tigers as he was raised in Sulphur, LA, and had a father who played for them.

Now, the class of 2025 elite legacy recruit is getting his opportunity. He still has two years left in high school, but there’s little doubt this is a dream come true for him.

In an interview with On3, he recalled the feeling of getting that first offer from the coaching staff.

“I have always hoped for an offer from LSU,” the class of 2025 tight end said. “I have been going to games all my life. My dad would take me and my brother and sister on the field for pregame. So yeah, it’s really exciting.”

“This offer means a lot to me and my family. I have been going to games there since I was a kid, and obviously my dad played there. The (summer was) crazy, and I am just trying to process all of it.”

LaFleur is now the third commitment in the Tigers’ 2025 class. As the 2023 season draws closer, it wouldn’t surprise to see several other recruits join him in the near future. For now, though, coach Brian Kelly has yet another elite tight end to look forward to coaching.
