LSU football lands just outside top-10 in 2024 Preseason AP Poll

Well, ladies and gentlemen, college football is officially just around the corner.

With just one Saturday remaining until the start of the 2024 college football season, the annual Preseason AP Poll has officially been released and anticipation for the start of it all has just about reached its peak.

While it was difficult to predict exactly where the Tigers of LSU football would ultimately end up due in large part to the many new faces to be featured on offense, they’ve officially landed at No. 13 overall with 804 total votes in the poll. With this landing spot, they’ve found themselves sandwiched right between Utah and Clemson, both of which are widely expected to compete for their own conference championships.

As per tradition, the SEC and Big Ten made up a large portion of the entire 25 team list, and this was the case in particular ahead of the 2024 season thanks in large part to conference expansion, as Oklahoma and Texas are now SEC schools, while the Big Ten has added Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington.

The SEC will start the upcoming year with nine total representatives in the top-25, with four sitting within the top-six. Important to note, with their No. 13 ranking, LSU is currently resting as the No. 6 team in-conference, with Georgia (No. 1), Texas (No. 4), Alabama (No. 5), Ole Miss (No. 6) and Missouri (No. 11) all receiving more votes for the time being.

Furthermore, with these official preseason rankings, Brian Kelly and his squad are set to face off in five ranked matchups this season, as No. 23 USC, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 20 Texas A&M, No. 5 Alabama and No. 16 Oklahoma are all on their 2024 schedule.

The LSU football team will get things started against No. 23 USC in Las Vegas, NV, on Sunday, September 1, at 6:30 p.m. CST in the annual Vegas Kickoff Classic. While this was already one of the more highly anticipated matchups of the season, the two teams being ranked has only added to the stakes, which should have college football fans all over the country abundantly excited for week one of the 2024 season.
