Former LSU baseball pitcher Paul Skenes played just one season for the Tigers. Still, few can argue with the fact that he is easily one of the best pitchers to ever play in Baton Rouge. However, he’s officially moved on after being drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2023 MLB Draft. Today, he took his first step into the big leagues after making his Minor League debut this afternoon.

Former LSU baseball pitcher Paul Skenes was elite as always in his Minor League debut

The debut was short-lived, but there’s little doubt that Pirates fans should be thrilled with what they have in pitcher Paul Skenes.

Today, former LSU baseball pitcher Paul Skenes pitched one inning for the Bradenton Marauders and was elite. The Marauders are the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Single-A affiliate. The Single-A teams are designed to allow younger players to develop before making their trip up to the Major Leagues.

However, for pitcher Paul Skenes, it would be surprising to see him stay in the Minors for too long moving forward. In his debut, he recorded two strikeouts and just one hit. In addition, he recorded a 0.0 ERA (earned runs allowed), which is about as perfect as a pitcher can get in baseball.

In his time in Baton Rouge, the star pitcher recorded an incredible 1.69 ERA over 19 games pitched. To add to the amazement, he threw a whopping 209 strikeouts for the Tigers in 2023.

If the former LSU baseball pitcher can continue this level of success, don’t be surprised to see the Pirates pull him up much faster than average. Skenes has an elite skill set that few pitchers can even dream of having at any point in their career.

Keep an eye on the elite pitcher throughout his professional career. He already has a legendary LSU baseball career. Now, it’s up to him on how far he can go in the MLB.
