Lamar Brown, one of the top LSU class of 2026 recruiting targets and the No. 1 offensive lineman nationally most recently made a slight adjustment to his future commitment date, potentially allowing the Tigers additional time to win over to the elite Louisiana product.

Two of the top-five players nationally reside in Louisiana

When looking at the top recruits in the 2026 recruiting cycle, few names hold more national prominence than that of defensive lineman Jahkeem Stewart and offensive lineman Lamar Brown.

Ranking No. 3 and No. 5 respectively, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, they’re not only two of the best high school players in the entire country, but they also happen to be the top two recruits in the state of Louisiana.

Relatively unsurprisingly, this has quickly led the pair to being the No. 1 and No. 2 priorities for the LSU class of 2026, and up to this point, the Tiger coaching staff has seemingly done some excellent work towards keeping them in-state. Even so, being two of the top-five players nationally, they’re undoubtedly hearing from the very best college football has to offer, so it will be quite the waiting game to see if they ultimately want to stay home to play for the purple and gold.

Top LSU class of 2026 recruiting target “will not be committing on November 1st”

While we don’t yet know of a final decision date for Stewart, up to this point, it’s been expected that a commitment could be just around the corner for Brown, the top inside offensive lineman in high school football.

Having originally set November 1st as the day to keep an eye on, Brown went ahead and took to Twitter to announce that he will, in fact, not be making any commitment on the early November deadline.

What this means for the LSU class of 2026 is yet to be seen, but it very well could just be a matter of going through the full process before jumping to any conclusions. If anything, this should be viewed as a good thing for everyone involved.

Just recently, the purple and gold lost one of their top commitments in the class of 2025, with five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore having made an initial decision too soon, eventually decommitting and flipping over to Oregon in just the last month or so.

While there’s no guarantees that this would have been the case for the top lineman, a delayed decision will certainly allow him time to not only focus on his football season, but also his full recruitment prior to making a commitment.

With his potentially pushed back (or moved up) commitment date, Brian Kelly and his entire coaching staff will need to continue going all in for Lamar Brown, as he has the potential to be an instant starter at the Power Four level if given the opportunity.

Officially listed as a 6-foot-4, 275-pound inside offensive lineman out of the Baton Rouge, LA, the standout still has plenty of room to grow into his frame, which is simply terrifying when considering just how dominant he is at his current size. Additionally, with some of the best athleticism in the entire recruiting cycle, it wouldn’t surprise to see him play either side of the ball at the next level, having shown dominance on both the offensive and defensive line for University Lab.

As of today, Monday, July 29, the LSU class of 2026 currently ranks No. 9 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, with three total commitments. There’s plenty of work left to be done, but there’s little doubt that Brown is one of the top priorities for the Tigers, regardless of class. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’ll be enough to keep the elite offensive lineman in-state.
