Sometimes, you need to get a little lost to find your way home. At least, that’s what Tiger fans hope turns out to be the case for LSU football transfer addition Aaron Anderson. The stud wide receiver grew up in New Orleans, and while he played his freshman season at Alabama, he’s back in the Boot and looking to be an instant impact kind of player in Baton Rouge.
LSU football transfer addition Aaron Anderson had a slightly unorthodox journey to Baton Rouge
When you come out of high school as one of the top recruits in Louisiana, it’s an expectation that you go to LSU. For a while, wide receiver Aaron Anderson followed the trend, having been committed to LSU for almost an entire year between 2020-2021.
However, In October 2021, he elected to switch things up and flip his commitment to Alabama. At the time, this was a significant loss for the Tigers. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound receiver possesses elite ball skills and ranked in the top 50 in the class of 2022, coming in at No. 49, according to 247 Sports.
However, after a relatively uninspiring freshman season with the Crimson Tide – mainly due to injury – he’s decided to return to coach Brian Kelly’s squad through the transfer portal.
Now, having redshirted last year after appearing in just one game last season, he joins LSU football as a redshirt freshman.
The former Alabama wide receiver is impressing early in the Tigers’ fall camp
When taking a player through the transfer portal with injury history, it’s always a bit of a gamble. However, with wide receiver Aaron Anderson, early signs show this is good for the Tigers.
Last week, when speaking with the media, offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock spoke on Anderson, and he had some promising things to say.
“He’s a guy who has to touch the football. And to make sure we’re creative enough, that we’re using the skills that he brings to the table the right way,” said Denbrock when asked about how they plan to utilize Anderson. “And, he’s obviously in the screen game, he’s a very valuable piece. Touching the ball and running the ball on jet sweeps and things like that, sure, that’s a part of it.”
“Sometimes you kind of look at an Aaron Anderson and somebody who’s got his ability to start and stop and run fast as maybe a one trick type of player, but Aaron, he’s unbelievably blessed with ball skills. And he can break people down in space, so we’ve got to get him into those scenarios as much as we possibly can and allow him to do what he’s best at.”
Through fall camp, this pickup was an elite one for coach Brian Kelly’s squad. The Tigers have an incredibly deep wide receiver room already. Still, despite said depth, expect to see plenty of Anderson this fall, as it sounds like his talent is simply too good to keep off the field for long.
