For LSU football, the 2022 season began in heartbreaking fashion. The Tigers dropped their opening game to Florida State in what easily could have been the game of the year in college football. Now, heading into 2023, the two teams faceoff again in week one in what could easily be a College Football Playoff preview. While last season’s game didn’t go quite as Tigers fans had hoped, quarterback Jayden Daniels is ready for the rematch.
Jayden Daniels is ready for the Tigers’ rematch versus Florida State
The feeling within the LSU football program following their week one loss in 2022 is not something that quarterback Jayden Daniels wants to experience again.
In week one of the 2022 season, the Tigers were down 24-17 with less than two minutes to go versus Florida State. Sitting on the one-yard line, it appeared that the Seminoles were just moments from putting the game away for good.
That’s when they fumbled the ball, giving it back to LSU with 1:20 left on the clock. Suddenly, there was life on the purple and gold sideline as the Tigers had one more opportunity. They would go on to score a touchdown, needing just an extra point to tie it up and send the game into overtime.
They missed the extra point.
Now, heading into 2023, Jayden Daniels is ready to silence the haters with the rematch He remembers what happened last year and has made it clear that he doesn’t want to feel that again.
In an interview with WGNO-TV at the Manning Passing Academy in June, Daniels spoke about the matchup:
“We earmark it because it’s the first one. I mean, we all know what happened last year. We want that taste out of our mouth,” Daniels said. “We’re going to go up against a great opponent in Florida State that hit the high note at the end of the season so we know it’s going to be a dogfight, but I mean, it’s the first one. It should be a top-10 matchup, so all eyes are going to be on us. Just go out there and really just locking in, just go out there and executing.”
When looking at games that will significantly impact the 2024 College Football Playoff, this matchup should be at the top of the list. The two teams will face off in week one on September 3 at 6:30 p.m. CST.
