LSU football landed its third transfer portal commitment in the last two days, as former Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown will spend his final season of eligibility as a part of the purple and gold.
LSU football receives major upgrade on both offense and special teams with latest commitment from Barion Brown
The ball is officially rolling for coach Brian Kelly and LSU football.
After starting the transfer portal period by losing 16 straight players, the Tigers desperately needed something to go their way, and for the second day in a row, they’ve received exactly that.
Getting things started was Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp, a stellar run blocker and under-utilized pass catcher who has just one year of eligibility remaining. Continuing the string of good news was former Florida cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson, who announced his pledge Saturday morning.
Now, if those two commitments weren’t proof enough that Brian Kelly is bringing a whole new mentality to his approach of the transfer portal, we might have just seen the best example since the veteran head coach first made his way to Baton Rouge, as star Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown will join the purple and gold for his final year of eligibility in 2025.
A 6-foot-1, 182-pound wide receiver out of Nashville, TN, Brown is officially rated as the No. 15 player currently in the portal, according to the 247Sports Transfer Rankings.
Having logged 122 receptions for 1,528 yards and 11 touchdowns in three years of SEC football, there’s no doubt about his ability to make a play for his offense. With that said, his pass catching ability isn’t even close to the most impressive thing about him.
When it comes to the sport of college football, there are very few athletes who come even close to the ability of Barion Brown as a return man. In fact, he just so happens to be the current SEC record holder for most kick return touchdowns in a career (5). Add in his average of 28.7 yards per return with 1,465 yards on 52 attempts, and LSU football has found itself an immediate game changer.
The Tiger transfer portal class of 2025 is up to three total commitments – all of which come from opposing SEC programs. Brian Kelly said early last week that he hopes to approach double-digit additions, so expect this to only be the beginning, as they look to continue building this group throughout the month of December.
