Former LSU defensive coordinator Matt House is set to make his way back to the NFL ranks. After a disappointing 2023 stint with the Tigers, he is now expected to be hired as the new Jacksonville Jaguars linebackers coach.

It was a tale of two sides for the LSU Tigers in 2023. On offense, things couldn’t have gone much better. Led by offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Tigers led the entire country in both yards and points per game.

Defensively, it was largely opposite. Led by former LSU defensive coordinator Matt House, the Tigers struggled mightily, even despite significant talent spread throughout the unit. In turn, the purple and gold ranked No. 105 in yards and No. 78 in points allowed per game.

As much as his trip to the college ranks flopped as a whole, this isn’t to say he’s not a more than capable coach. With more than 20 years experience, House has found his way to several NFL coaching staffs, including the 2019 Kansas City Chiefs, earning a Super Bowl ring as their linebackers coach.

Now, he’s expected to give it another try, making his return to the next level after just two years of being away.

Since Matt House first being let go by coach Brian Kelly and LSU, the Tigers have since completely revamped their defensive coaching staff, getting things started with the hiring of defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

Joining Baker are defensive line coach Bo Davis, edge rushers coach Kevin Peoples, secondary coach Corey Raymond and safeties coach Jake Olsen.

While there’s plenty of work to be done on the defensive side of the ball, with these recent hires, the Tigers are setting themselves up for success down the line. Now it’s just a matter of getting all the pieces to fit together.
