In 2023, the LSU football offense stood among the best in college football. The remarkable improvement led to offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock becoming a finalist for the Broyles Award, recognizing the country’s top coordinator. Today, Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports reported that the Tigers are in the process of finalizing a contract extension for the coach.

Since coach Brian Kelly brought offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock to LSU in 2022, the Tiger offense has excelled. In his inaugural year with the program, the unit amassed 6,344 total yards, the second-highest in school history at the time.

Just one year later, following an impressive 2023 season, it’s becoming evident that Denbrock is just getting started. Through 12 games, the Tigers currently lead the country in total offense, averaging an impressive 547.8 yards per game. This performance has surpassed their 2022 total with 6,573 yards and 73 touchdowns.

Under the leadership of quarterback Jayden Daniels, the group has been virtually unstoppable. Fortunately for Tiger fans, it appears that Denbrock will remain with the team for the foreseeable future. According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, LSU is in the process of finalizing an extension with the 59-year-old coordinator.

A native of Homer, MI, he has spent the majority of his college football career in the Midwest. Consequently, many questioned how his offense would fare in the SEC against teams such as Alabama and Georgia.

However, through just two seasons, it’s apparent that his offensive prowess transcends geographical boundaries.

In 2023, he played a crucial role in guiding the LSU football offense to the top position in several statistical categories, including total offense (547.8 yards per game), 3rd down conversion percentage (56.7 percent), scoring offense (46.4 points per game), and team passing efficiency (196.51).

If the veteran follows through with this reported three-year contract extension, it not only bodes well for him but also for the entire LSU offense as they work towards the future of Coach Brian Kelly’s tenure.
