Get ready Tiger fans; the 2024 LSU pass catching room is going to look very different from years past. After multiple seasons in a row of pretty consistent names and faces to know amongst Tiger pass catchers, there are plenty of new ones to learn heading into the new season. Notably, the transfer portal played a major role in this, as CJ Daniels out of Liberty has the potential to be a leading wide receiver for the purple and gold.

The 2024 LSU pass catching room will look very different

Star pass catchers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr are officially off to the 2024 NFL Draft, opening the door for plenty of new or at the very least less familiar faces to make their mark.

Kyren Lacy and Chris Hilton Jr are likely the most well known receivers remaining on roster heading into 2024, and they’ll undoubtedly earn plenty of snaps for the Tigers. After accounting for 43 receptions, 783 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023, they’ve more than earned it.

Still, the differences start to make themselves clear when you take a look at some of the new faces. For starters, the Tigers brought in two immediate impact transfer additions in CJ Daniels out of Liberty and Zavion Thomas from in-conference Mississippi State.

LSU could get some major contributions out of their group of freshmen as well. Wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton will bring in three four-star recruits, as Kylan Billiot, Jelani Watkins and Michael Turner each bring something unique to the table that could see them early snaps on offense.

While the five new additions don’t immediately make up for the loss of production from the two future first rounders, it at the very least brings plenty of potential to the table. With the combination of immediate contributors as well as future stars, the coaching staff made some very necessary moves heading into the 2024 season.

Transfer wide receiver CJ Daniels has the potential to be one of the best playmakers in the country

As good as the LSU pass catching room as a whole could be this coming season, few players stand out as much as transfer portal addition CJ Daniels.

After coming into college as a two-star recruit and just the No. 238 player from Georgia in the class of 2020, it’s safe to say that he’s out played his recruitment.

After taking a few seasons to get his feet under him, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver broke out in a major way in 2023. Amassing 55 receptions for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns, he has turned himself into one of the best playmakers in the country.

Now, as we look ahead to 2024, the potential is through the roof for the new purple and gold wide receiver. This becomes especially true when you consider that Daniels averaged an impressive 19.4 yards per reception, showing off his big-play ability.

Add in the arm strength of quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, and we very well could see one of the best passing game duos in college football once again residing in Baton Rouge.

For now, Tiger fans will have to wait, but there’s no doubt the potential is there to see a continuation of last year’s success. The biggest challenge will likely be a matter of just how well the new look offense can mesh together.
