After taking a brutal hit from sophomore running back Kaleb Jackson just a few days ago in the 2024 LSU football fall camp, sophomore linebacker Whit Weeks laughed it off while speaking with the media earlier today and gave plenty of credit to his teammate.
LSU linebacker Whit Weeks laughs off viral tackle attempt vs. fellow sophomore Kaleb Jackson
The phrase âiron sharpens ironâ gets thrown around plenty in the world of football, and there have been plenty of excellent examples thus far in the 2024 LSU football fall camp.
As a matter of fact, one such example happened just the other day, when sophomore running back Kaleb Jackson came to face-to-face with sophomore linebacker Whit Weeks.
In the viral video, Jackson can be seen taking a short dump off pass from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, and when the two underclassmen met up in the open field, the soon-to-be star ball carrier ultimately came out on top â quite literally â as he did what he does best and trucked Weeks into the ground without an ounce of hesitation.
While it might have been a bit more contact than most coaches would like to see in practice, these kinds of plays have been common occurrences throughout this yearâs Tiger fall camp, and in many ways this feels like a change of mentality more than anything. The team has some lofty goals in 2024, and if theyâre to achieve any of said goals, itâs going to take some serious preparation, and this is all just a part of the process.
Even better, despite being on the losing end of the rep, Weeks was fired up by the play, and actually turned it into a compliment towards his teammate. While speaking with the media earlier today, the Louisiana-based linebacker laughed it off, saying, âIâve been playing football all my life, and stuff like that happens. Youâre gonna have a bad play, and you just gotta get up and play the next play. He made a good play, and you want a dude like that on your team. Iâm glad heâs not playing for somebody else.â
Throughout the offseason, several purple and gold leaders have come forward and made their opinions felt when it comes to the consistent 10-win seasons over the past two years. While it may good enough for some programs, itâs not good enough for LSU, and theyâre ready to take a jump forward.
As exciting as plays like the one between Jackson and Weeks are in the offseason, at the end of the day, none of it matters unless you can bring that same energy to the football field on Saturdays in the fall. Lucky for the fans out there, the wait is nearly over, as weâre officially less than three weeks away, and the Tigers will soon head to Las Vegas, NV, for their matchup against USC on Sunday, September 1, in their season opener.
