LSU legend Alex Bregman sends message to Tiger baseball ahead of season opener
When discussing the greatest Tiger athletes of all-time, itās not uncommon for the name Alex Bregman to pop up here and there, especially when the sport of baseball is involved.
During his time in Baton Rouge from 2013 to 2015, the talented infielder was by far one of the best players in college baseball. Among his many accomplishments with the purple and gold include 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year, 2013 National Shortstop of the Year and First-Team All-American status in 2015.
Naturally, he went ahead and turned that into a similarly impressive MLB career, already having been a part of two World Series championship teams with the Houston Astros.
Now, as the torch has been passed to future and current Tiger baseball teams, the LSU legend hasnāt forgotten about his roots. Earlier this week, when speaking with Leah Vann of the Chron, Bregman made sure to share a message with coach Jay Johnson and his 2024 squad.
āJust do exactly what you did last year,ā the Houston Astros third baseman said with a smile.
In 2023, LSU baseball pulled off a miracle season, going on to win their first College Baseball World Series since 2009. Furthermore, it was their seventh title all-time, and now heading into 2024, the Tigers once again rank among the very best in the country.
According to Baseball America, the purple and gold currently rank as the preseason No. 2 team nationally, just behind Wake Forest. Notably, not far behind them are several SEC programs, including Arkansas (No. 3), Florida (No. 4), Vanderbilt (No. 7) and Tennessee (No. 8).
The season will officially open today with a home matchup vs. VMI in Alex Box Stadium at 2:00 p.m. CST. This will be the first ever game between the pair, and it will be available to watch live on SEC Network+.
