It’s been an up and down season for coach Brian Kelly and LSU football throughout 2023. Despite starting the year with a loss, the Tigers are still widely viewed as one of the best teams in the country. Today, with the final revealing of the 2023 College Football Playoff rankings, the purple and gold have landed at No. 13.

LSU football lands at No. 13 in final College Football Playoff rankings

When looking back on the 2023 college football season as it relates to coach Brian Kelly and LSU football, it’s not hard to wonder what could have been. Finishing the regular season with three losses, they still have a chance at yet another 10-win season, which on the surface is amazing.

Still, the defense struggled throughout the year, which unfortunately handicapped possibly the best offense in the country, led by Heisman contending quarterback Jayden Daniels. In turn, all of that added up to a 9-3 season for the Tigers, landing them at No. 13 overall in the final edition of the College Football Playoff rankings.

Notably, once again coach Brian Kelly and his squad are highly respected, even despite their three losses. Having dropped games to No. 5 Florida State, No. 4 Alabama and No. 11 Ole Miss, they faced something of a gauntlet and unfortunately weren’t able to come away with an extra win.

Some other notable teams in the rankings include six teams in the SEC: No. 4 Alabama, No. 6 Georgia, No. 9 Missouri, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 13 LSU and No. 21 Tennessee.

While we don’t yet know which bowl game we’ll see the Tigers play in, it should be revealed soon now that the final College Football Playoff rankings are out. Some potential matchups to keep an eye on include No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 19 NC State.
