If Brian Kelly has made one thing clear, it’s that he has made the state of Louisiana a huge priority when it comes to LSU football recruiting. This has been true regarding both high school recruiting and the transfer portal, and it’s paid off. The Tigers currently sit at No. 5 in the country with 15 commits in the class of 2024. Out of their 15 commits, eight are from Louisiana, with the most recent being four-star athlete Ju’Juan Johnson.

LSU football recruiting: yet another commitment out of Louisiana

On Monday evening, LSU football received fantastic news as four-star athlete Ju’Juan Johnson flipped his commitment to the Tigers. Originally committed to Colorado, it was no guarantee he’d end up a Tiger. Still, following the Buffaloes’ spring game, Johnson decommitted, opening up LSU’s chances.

With the door seemingly wide open, LSU and Florida were two of the leading schools recruiting his talents. While he had some official visits scheduled for the summer, a trip to Baton Rouge yesterday ultimately did the trick as he elected to announce his commitment before the end of the day.

The Tigers are gaining a big-time athlete, with Johnson being a track star alongside football. He’s currently ranked as the No. 22 athlete and the No. 7 overall player in Louisiana per 247Sports. He’s also rated as the No. 267 player nationally, showing just how elite Louisiana is in creating top football recruits year in and year out. Despite being an elite quarterback prospect in high school, Johnson projects more as a cornerback at the next level, primarily thanks to his size and athleticism.

With this electric athlete now a part of the LSU football class of 2024, the Tigers have an even brighter future. As Brian Kelly looks forward, it will be interesting to see just how good this class can get.
