After a fairly slow start to the month of September, LSU football recruiting officially has momentum moving in the right direction, most recently landing a commitment from class of 2025 three-star defensive lineman Walter Mathis Jr.

LSU football recruiting lands major defensive lineman Walter Mathis Jr out of Georgia

After a bit of a dead period as far as the recruiting world is concerned, the Tigers of LSU are officially back in the win column in that department, receiving a commitment from class of 2025 defensive lineman Walter Mathis Jr early Friday evening.

Officially listed as a 6-foot-2, 285-pound defensive lineman out of Savannah, GA, Mathis Jr isn’t exactly the highest rated prospect from a national standpoint, sitting at No. 456 nationally, according to On3, but his recruitment up to this point shares another story.

Boasting one of the more impressive offer lists that includes national powers such as Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Texas, there was little doubt that this recruitment could be one that comes down to the wire.

Luckily for Tiger fans, this was a race that the purple and gold would eventually come out on top for, thanks in large part to a summer official visit to Baton Rouge that took place in late June.

Having recorded 50 total tackles and six sacks as a sophomore in 2022, Mathis Jr has now become the 26th total commitment for the LSU football recruiting class of 2025, helping to give the No. 3 group nationally their fourth committed defensive lineman so far.
