The Tigers faced a couple of recruiting losses of late, with two decommitments in the last week. However, coach Brian Kelly and his squad appear to be back on the rise, and it all started with class of 2024 cornerback PJ Woodland. After decommitting from Mississippi State on October 15, he wasted very little time, announcing his commitment to LSU football recruiting on Sunday.
LSU football recruiting lands commitment from class of 2024 cornerback PJ Woodland
Coach Brian Kelly has made one position group a priority thus far in the class of 2024, and so far, it’s paid off in a major way.
After practically rebuilding his defensive back room two offseasons in a row, he placed an emphasis on recruiting the positions. In turn, he’s put together a group of six defensive backs.
Most recently, cornerback PJ Woodland joined the group, announcing his commitment to the Tigers on Sunday.
Prior to his commitment to attend school in Baton Rouge, the 6-foot, 165-pound cornerback was committed to Mississippi State for nearly four months. He initially announced his commitment in June, but shortly after decommitting in mid-October, he found that LSU was the place for him.
PJ Woodland currently ranks as the No. 54 athlete nationally, according to 247 Sports, and the No. 17 player in Mississippi.
This marks the sixth defensive back commitment for the Tigers
While Woodland isn’t necessarily the highest-ranked commitment for LSU football recruiting, he could prove to be a good one down the line. Weighing just 165 pounds at the moment, he’s undoubtedly raw as an athlete, but having recorded 38 tackles and seven interceptions in 2022, he has immense potential.
This also works well, considering the rest of the Tiger class of 2024. As things stand, four cornerbacks are committed to the group, along with two other safeties.
That group consists of four-stars Dashawn McBryde, Cai Bates, Ju’Juan Johnson and Joel Rogers, along with three-stars Wallace Foster and now PJ Woodland.
The group has both immediate impact potential as well as down-the-line potential, allowing for plenty of depth in the future for LSU football.
With the commitment of Woodland, the Tigers now rank No. 12 nationally with 24 commitments.
