Compared to just one season ago, expectations have taken a significant rise for LSU football. The Tigers went 10-4 overall last season, making it to the SEC Championship. With this recent increase in their level of play, the national media has a much higher view of the program. Pro Football Focus recently ranked them top 10 in their most recent college football power rankings.
LSU football ranked top 10 in the most recent PFF power rankings
We’re officially in projection season, meaning power rankings will soon be the talk of college football. PFF joined the party on Wednesday, releasing their most recent ELO power rankings.
These power rankings are typically based purely on skill level and overall talent. This differs from typical rankings, which work toward projecting how a team will do in a season.
Often, this leads power rankings to include more of one particular conference if it has better all-around teams than others. For instance, in the PFF college football power rankings, the SEC and Big Ten comprise seven of the top 10. The other power five conferences (ACC, PAC-12, Big 12) have one school represented each.
Regarding the Tigers of Baton Rouge, PFF is high on LSU football heading into 2023. They ranked them No. 8 overall, just ahead of in-conference rival Tennessee.
The Tigers are led by passing game stars Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers on offense. Together, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see them form one of the best passing games in college football.
On defense, they’re led by superstars Maason Smith, Mekhi Wingo and Harold Perkins Jr. Together, that group of three could make the Tigers one of the best defenses in the country. Good luck to anyone trying to move the ball against them.
Where LSU football finishes its season is yet to be seen. Still, it’s hard to argue with the talent level they have on roster. It’ll be interesting to see what coach Brian Kelly can accomplish with it.
