LSU football is no stranger to finding overlooked talent in southern Mississippi, and they may have just found another. Earlier this week, the Tiger coaching staff offered Mississippi-based cornerback Maison Dunn, who – based on his current list of offers – has the potential to see a pretty significant boost in his overall rating in the not too distant future.
LSU football offers Mississippi-based cornerback Maison Dunn
If there’s anything you should know about recruiting in the Southeast, it’s that there are are both plenty of highly rated, as well as highly overlooked recruits just waiting for an opportunity. Lucky for Tiger football fans, this LSU coaching staff is abundantly aware of it, and they may have just found yet another hidden gem.
Mississippi-based cornerback Maison Dunn is listed as a 6-foot-4, 180-pound defensive back out of Tupelo, MS, and while he’s only listed as a three-star recruit right now, his list of offers – which include Minnesota, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and most recently LSU – lend one to believe that he may be slightly underrated for the time being.
As we stand today, 247Sports is the only recruiting service to have the lengthy cornerback rated, as he is currently sitting as the No. 72 cornerback nationally.
Important to note is the fact that this likely has to do largely with the fact that he doesn’t have a ton of experience as a starter at the varsity level. However, in his first full season as a starter in 2023, he had very little issue in making a nearly immediate impact, recording 21 total tackles, one tackle for loss, six passes defended and two interceptions.
Furthermore, while incredibly raw as an overall prospect, it’s encouraging that he’s shown a willingness to put his body on the line both in coverage and as a tackler. The biggest thing right now is continuing to clean things up from a technical standpoint, as well as adding some more mass to an already impressive frame ahead of his senior year of high school.
Right now, the LSU football class of 2025 ranks among the very best in the country, sitting at No. 1 in the SEC, according to 247Sports, as well as No. 3 nationally. With that said, only three of their 12 current commitments are on the defensive side of the ball, meaning recruitments such as this one are extra important for a coaching staff that is still looking to establish itself as a national power.
